Pyrit: A finite element based field simulation software written in Python

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present the freely available finite element simulation software Pyrit . Design/methodology/approach In a first step, design principles and objective project are defined. Then, software’s structure established: organized in packages for which an overview given. based on typical steps workflow, i.e., problem definition, problem-solving post-processing. State-of-the-art engineering applied ensure high code quality at all times. Finally, modeling workflow demonstrated by three examples. Findings field method written Python solve coupled systems partial differential equations. It designed as modular that easily modifiable extendable. framework can, therefore, be adapted various activities, research, education industry collaboration. Research limitations/implications focus static quasistatic electromagnetic problems well (coupled) heat conduction problems. allows both time domain frequency simulations.
